Plot summary: Diego Viani is a former robber, well-known in the 1980s for his "unarmed" heists. Everything spirals out of control when Diego’s past resurfaces in the form of Salamandra, an old accomplice. Salamandra accuses him of stealing the loot from their final job: five billion lire in gold bullion that vanished into thin air. When Salamandra dies under mysterious circumstances, Diego becomes the prime suspect. Commissioner Castrone, fueled by a long-standing personal vendetta, is convinced of his guilt. The only person who believes in Diego’s innocence is Ragusa, who decides to investigate with the help of the unlikely Alex.
