Irina Metlitskaya

Biography

Irina Yuryevna Metlitskaya (RU: Ирина Юрьевна Метлицкая; October 5, 1961, Severodvinsk — June 5, 1997, Moscow) was a Soviet and Russian stage and film actress. She became famous for her roles in the films «The Executioner» (1990), «A Little Doll» (1988), «The Black Veil» (1995), «I Love» (1994), and «Creation of Adam» (1994).

She studied at a specialized physics and mathematics school in Minsk. Film director Igor Dobrolyubov visited this school in search of a girl for a lead role and invited her to star in the film «Schedule for the Day After Tomorrow» (1979). After studying for a year at the Physics Department of the Belarusian State University, she moved to Moscow, where she enrolled in the Shchukin Theatre School. She graduated from the Boris Shchukin Theatre Institute (A. G. Burov's course) in 1984. While still in her fourth year, she began acting at the Sovremennik Theatre, and upon graduation, was accepted into its troupe. From 1991 to 1993, she worked at the Roman Viktyuk Theatre. Irina Metlitskaya also participated in productions at the Theatre of the Moon (in particular, playing Theodora in the play «Byzantium»).

Irina Metlitskaya died of acute leukemia in Moscow on June 5, 1997, four months before her 36th birthday.
